[edit] About the Cowhouse
After growing tired of years of renting, I purchased my first house in February 2005. It's located in north-west Austin, Texas and is commonly known as "the cowhouse" among my friends.
It's located about 10-15 minutes by car from my work at Univa UD, which makes it a very convenient commute for me. I enjoy having a short commute, and I would be greatly disappointed if I ever had to spend much more than that commuting. Besides being convenient, having a short commute is better for the environment by minimizing gas usage and vehicle emissions.
Housing prices in Austin are very affordable when compared to certain other parts of the country, such as California. For example, I've estimated that Austin prices are generally less than 1/5th of the cost of property with comparable features in the general Los Angeles area. My house has 2-stories, 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, 3500 sqft, and a swimming pool and I'm certain that I wouldn't have been able to realistically afford anything like this if I were still living in the Southern California area.

My housemate, Decibel, rents some of the extra space from me and splits the cost of utilities from me. It's a convenient arrangement for both of us, and we have enough common interests to make it work out well enough.
[edit] Nuclear Taco Night
For the last few years, it has become a regular tradition to have Nuclear Taco Night gatherings at my house. For awhile, we had them every other Wednesday night, though more commonly it is just the first Wednesday of each month.

One of the very first things I did after moving into this house was to install Ethernet cabling into all of the rooms by running the wires through the walls and attic areas. All of the upstairs rooms are connected to a central network switch, which then connects downstairs.

The cowhouse is currently inhabited by three cats:
- Mary — light-orange tabby
- Wilma — orange tabby with darker stripes
- Jasper — black and white
Mary and Wilma belong to Decibel, and Jasper belongs to me.
